Whitney Benzian is Coronado’s go-to real estate expert, ranked among Douglas Elliman’s top agents statewide. Raised in Coronado and a Coronado High School graduate, Whitney’s roots in the island community run deep. Buying or selling, Whitney’s clients benefit from his decades of Coronado market knowledge and proven negotiation skills.
But Whitney’s expertise doesn’t stop at the island. Leveraging his deep network and proven track record, he also represents luxury buyers and sellers across San Diego County, including in La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, and other highly desirable neighborhoods. With experience on both sides of the deal in these competitive markets, Whitney offers clients a strategic edge and regional perspective few can match.
As a former Coronado City Council member and mayor pro tempore, Whitney is well-versed on municipal land use and housing policies that help inform his practice. Prior to building his real estate business, he was a marketing and public relations executive for a leading San Diego-based public affairs company. A rental housing expert, Whitney also ran the San Diego office of the California Apartment Association—the largest rental housing association in the country—where he advised and advocated on industry matters and was often called upon by the media to share his opinions on the housing market.

Whitney’s community involvement is ongoing. He currently serves on the following boards in Coronado and across San Diego County.
San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, Board Member
Whitney serves on the board of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, the agency that runs San Diego International Airport. He was appointed by the South County mayors. The same board also sits as the Airport Land Use Commission, which reviews how land near airports across San Diego County is planned and developed. The work keeps him current on flight paths, noise rules, and land use policy that affect property values in Coronado, Point Loma, and other neighborhoods near the airport. It is useful context for any buyer or seller weighing those factors.
Safe Harbor Coronado, Board Member
Safe Harbor is the only nonprofit in Coronado dedicated entirely to mental health. It provides low cost counseling along with school and community programs for local youth and families. Whitney serves on its board. In 2025 the Port of San Diego recognized Safe Harbor with an Anchors of Excellence Award for its work in the community.
Coronado Community Foundation, Board Member
The Coronado Community Foundation funds local nonprofits and runs initiatives that address unmet needs on the island. It partners with nonprofit organizations, city government, and residents to pay for the things that would otherwise fall through the cracks. Whitney joined the board in 2024. The role keeps him close to the people and organizations doing the everyday work in town.
